Horikita Maki who born on October 6, 1988 is a top Japanese actress and endorser. She debuted in 2003 as a "U-15 idol" and has since starred in Japanese television dramas, television and magazine advertisements, and movies.

Born as Marina Hara (real name) on 6th October 1988 in Kiyose, Tokyo, Japan, she  is the eldest of three girls in her family. But she was boyish during most of her childhood. So she was enjoying sessions of basketball and baseball with her friends and preferring a mock game of Dragon Ball Z with the boys rather than doll games with the girls in her middle school. But she looked up to her mother. This was revealed when she appeared on KAT-TUN's variety show "Cartoon KAT-TUN" where she mentioned that she liked imitating her mother when her mother was younger.

In junior high school, she served as the vice-president of her "school's student council" and the vice-captain of her basketball club. And in class, she was dubbed as "The Boss of 3-C” in recognition of her status as the class representative. So obviosly that she became more active in her entertainment industry. Being unable to meet her many commitments, she finally withdrew from her school activities, and concentrating solely on completing her high school education and developing her career in show business.

She had appeared in several Japan drama series and Japan movies since 2003. With her roles in Densha Otoko and Nobuta wo Produce that opened more doors of opportunity for her. Her promising portrayal of the titular character in "Nobuta wo Produce" (Japan Drama) won her a "Best Supporting Actress award" from Japan's Television Academy Awards. Then she won the "Newcomer Award" from Japan Academy Awards for her role as a student apprentice in "Always: Sunset on Third Street" (Japan Movie).
